Reflections from 2011 to 2012

As we come to the end of another year and
I reflect on our work, I am so moved by the
experiences we are so privileged to share
with many many people. First and foremost
the families, who allow us into their homes.
They share their lives, memories, longings and
aspirations so generously. The volunteers, who
bring their wonderful qualities in the service
of Home-Start Westminster and their fellow
travelers. The Trustees, who are also volunteers,
who bring their experience and skills and generosity.
They drive this small organisation to be the best it
can be in the service of those families experiencing
difficulties. The small team that works with me,
bring their passion and commitment. They know it is
never what we do, but the way that we do it, that
makes all the difference. Having emotional competence
and holding people in positive regard is key to a
positive outcome for families. Volunteering is bandied
about these days, but only those who volunteer and give
of themselves, know the huge gratification and benefits
they receive from their work. There are few things as
rewarding as easing somebody's step for maybe just a
few seconds and building on that until it is a
minute, an hour, a day,a week, a year. For everyone
who has been part of Home-Start Westminster in this
very challenging year I wish you the very best for
2012. Remember the best things in life are free.
Love your neighbor they are you. When you say or
do something harmful to others you harm yourself
more, so be kind to others and to yourself.
Revolution and change is in the air so keep
it going in the right direction by saying and
doing with mindfulness and love in 2012.
