On 7th October, we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a fantastic reception at the House of Lords. We were fortunate to be hosted by Baroness Harris of Richmond who made us all feel really welcome. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on the terrace, a tour of Parliament, and speeches by our Scheme Manager Christa, as well as volunteer Joy Simpson and Julie Mary Henry who both spoke movingly about their experiences of Home-Start Westminster. On 8th April staff, families and children enjoyed our annual Easter picnic to Regent’s Park. Parent’s were able to enjoy relaxing in the sun chatting to old friends and getting to know some news ones while we organised games for the children to enjoy such as an egg and spoon race (which some parent’s even took part in!), a sack race, parachute games and the highlight of the day – our annual easter egg hunt. I’m not sure who had more fun, Emily and George hiding the eggs or the children finding them. We were blessed with beautiful weather and over 15 families and 30 children enjoyed the day.

We are currently running our first training course of the new year and once again we have an interested, committed and inspiring group who will go on to be valuable volunteers. Our families joined those from New Pin and enjoyed a wonderful Christmas party complete with conjurers and of course Father Christmas at the New Pin premises.
Those volunteers who ventured out on 16th December also enjoyed a lovely Christmas party at a beautiful venue overlooking the Thames at Tower Bridge – kindly donated by Marsh Ltd.

Following our most succesul ever volunteer training course in November. We will be starting our new training course on January 21st and it will run until February 26th.

We are currently running our most popular prep. course ever – this is the training that all our volunteers must undertake before being matched with a family. There are 20 potential volunteers taking part and they will be fully trained by the end of November.

We currently run three prep courses throughour the year, which take place from 10am to 3pm. The courses usually start in January, May and September and take place in the Home-Start office near Marylebone Station. Our next volunteer preparation course will start in September 2009.
