On 25th January, we were honoured to host a one day seminar by Sir Richard Bowlby on “Becoming attached – the value of family support”. 60 people attended including Home-Start volunteers and parents, children’s centre outreach workers, school staff, health visitors, educational psychologists and refuge workers. We hope to follow this fantastic event with further workshops on attachment, child development and early intervention in 2011. Having been selected as one of three charities to enter the customer voting stage of the NatWest Community Fund by the Swiss Cottage Branch, we are delighted to announce that we won the vote and will receive an award of £3,000 towards our work! A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us!
Home-Start Westminster is proud to be hosting a one-day seminar with Sir Richard Bowlby on the topic of ‘BECOMING ATTACHED – THE VALUE OF FAMILY SUPPORT’. The seminar will take place on Tuesday 25th January 2011, from 9.45am – 3.30pm at St Paul’s Church Centre, 3 Rossmore Road, NW1 6NJ. Tickets are priced at £45, or £5 for Home-Start Westminster volunteers/people on benefits, and include lunch – all proceeds will go towards supporting our work. On 7th October, we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a fantastic reception at the House of Lords. We were fortunate to be hosted by Baroness Harris of Richmond who made us all feel really welcome. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on the terrace, a tour of Parliament, and speeches by our Scheme Manager Christa, as well as volunteer Joy Simpson and Julie Mary Henry who both spoke movingly about their experiences of Home-Start Westminster. On Saturday 2nd October Fiona Morgan, a Home Start Westminster Volunteer, held a cake sale in aid of Home Start Westminster at St Peters Church in Bayswater. She raised a fantastic £85 which will go towards supporting local families. Many thanks to Fiona and all volunteers who baked cakes or supported her on the day.
We held our AGM on September 14th and reported that in 2009/10 we made a difference to:
156 Westminster families who we supported with a volunteer
399 children in those families
84 volunteers who again showed great commitment and understanding
The City of Westminster funded 25% of our work, 75% was from individual donors and charitable foundations. Thank you for helping us to make a difference to so many lives.
We are very pleased to welcome Miriam Philip who has joined us a co-ordinator while George is on maternity leave. Miriam has lots of experience working with families. She has previously worked with refugees and on an early years education project in Zanzibar.
