10th anniversary reception at the House of Lords

Cake sale for Home-Start Westminster

Achievements 2009/10

Christa, Joy and Julie listening to Baroness Harris's welcoming speech

On 7th October, we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a fantastic reception at the House of Lords.  We were fortunate to be hosted by Baroness Harris of Richmond who made us all feel really welcome. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on the terrace, a tour of Parliament, and speeches by our Scheme Manager Christa, as well as volunteer Joy Simpson and Julie Mary Henry who both spoke movingly about their experiences of Home-Start Westminster. Our thanks go to everyone who helped to make this such a memorable event! Please click on the photos to go to our Photo Album…

On Saturday 2nd October Fiona Morgan, a Home Start Westminster Volunteer, held a cake sale in aid of Home Start Westminster at St Peters Church in Bayswater. She baked a fabulous selection of cakes and the church donated some delicious home made marmalade as well.  Many volunteers visited on the day and Maureen Molloy, another volunteer, baked one of her famous personalised Home-Start Cakes which only seem to get better and better!  Fiona sold out on the day, raising a fantastic £60 and not stopping there, she made more cakes to order for people who had tasted her treats before and couldn’t get enough! So the final amount came to £85. A huge thanks to Fiona and all who donated cakes or attended on the day. Ventures like this are hugely important to Home-Start Westminster as not only does it raise important funds to support families but also raises awareness of the fantastic work that we do.

We held our AGM on September 14th and reported that in 2009/10 we made a difference to:
156 Westminster families who we supported with a volunteer
399 children in those families
84 volunteers who again showed great commitment and understanding
The City of Westminster funded 25% of our work, 75% was from individual donors and charitable foundations. Thank you for helping us to make a difference to so many lives.
