Bump-Start is our innovative early intervention programme using volunteers to support families through pregnancy, the birth experience and during the first year of their baby’s life.

The Bump-Start approach

The core programme employs and extends Home-Start’s unique home-visiting volunteer support, using specially trained Bump-Start volunteers.

All assistance is rooted in a focus on family relationships and early attachment, working alongside the family to build on their strengths and resources.

As an additional component, the programme aims to support access to long term psychotherapy with a trainee therapist in placement to foster maternal mental health.

To improve:

  • emotional wellbeing
  • family relationships
  • access to services and social networks
  • attachment
  • confidence in ability to parent

Referral Criteria

Any family expecting a baby and needing extra support is eligible, living in the boroughs of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea or Hammersmith & Fulham.

Referrals may come from statutory or voluntary sector professionals, or from families themselves.

We accept referrals at any point during the mother’s pregnancy, but ideally before the last trimester.
